Fields to Plate Produce

Max Fields and James Plate

Max Fields and James Plate are first generation farmers. They grew up in inner-city Denver, but left for the hills in pursuit of the agricultural experience. Both were studying agriculture at Fort Lewis College in 2009 when they met Beth LaShell, who gave them the opportunity to work at the Old Fort in Hesperus in 2010.

Fields and Plate participated in the first year of the incubator program at the Old Fort, where they could lease land for agricultural production and gain access to business resources for the 2013 growing season.

Today, they grow a variety of root vegetables, most notably beets, on their farm in Durango, Colorado. For more information, visit or find them on Facebook.
